McIlroy and Woods Miss Cut in Abu Dhabi

Tiger Woods appeared to have made the cut when he finished his second-round in a one over par 73. Upon entering the scoring trailer, Woods was informed that he had incorrectly taken relief for an imbedded ball on the 5th hole. Woods had conferred with his playing partner Martin Kaymer, and they both agreed the ball had been embedded. On the 11th hole Woods was informed by a European Tour Senior Rules Official Andy McFee that his drop at the 5th was under review. After the round it was determined that since the ball was imbedded in sand based ground, he was not entitled to relief. Upon taking the two-stroke penalty, Woods finished at +3 and missed the cut. World number one Rory McIlroy, struggled again in the second-round. McIlroy switched back to his Scotty Cameron putter for the first round, however it didn’t make much difference. McIlroy struggled to a second-round, 75 to miss the cut. It is apparent McIlroy is not yet comfortable with his new Nike equipment.
